Holiday Party
I started a new job here in New York in November. We had our holiday party in January where I wore the tuxedo I was married in. Three waldrobe malfunctions
PROBLEM 1: I'm too fat now and could not button my pants
SOLUTION 1: Cumberbund serves nicely to keep my pants up
PROBLEM 2: I (still) don't know how to tie a bow tie
SOLUTION 2: My wife could do it with a little help from youtube
PROBLEM 3: Forgot the shirt requires cufflinks and didn't pack them while in temporary housing
SOLUTION 3: Tuxedo jacket conceals this
This is an ice sculpture that they pour your drink through and then collect it in the bottom.

Cool Cats!
Saturday we went to the AKC "Meet the Breeds" event at Jacob Javits center. Although it was mostly dogs, we were really there to see the cats.
Below is a Bengali cat. The coat is beautiful.
Next is a "curly" cat. Note the ears. This is an autosomal dominant trait, but the gene has not yet been determined. I was told it is being worked on my the veterinary genetics team at UC Davis. I am guessing it is a polymorphism in a collagen gene. You can learn more about curls

Wagyu Beef
My wife makes fun of me (this may be a recurring theme of the blog) because I enjoy perusing grocery stores in foreign countries or Asian grocery stores in the US. Yesterday, saw this very interesting beef with a distinct marbling pattern. What is the biological basis for that? To be continued
